-It will likely take a short while before manufacturers are prepared to offer Gen 5 light-bearing models. IF YOU CARRY A GLOCK 19 WITH A LIGHTnote that the Gen 5 with a light will not likely fit your Kydex light-bearing holster. The Gen 5 also features only one pin near the locking block instead of the 2 pins common to recent generations. Scratches and flaked-off finish after the Glock 19 Gen 5 was dropped onto gravel repeatedly during training. +In December 2024, the states of Minnesota and New Jersey sued Glock over the design of the 9-millimeter semiautomatic pistol, claiming that the company had failed to make changes to prevent the easy conversion of the pistol into an illegal and much more dangerous machine gunExperts on gun controlmass shootingsand defense training have cited factors such as reliabilityease of use, and commonness for why Glock pistols are so often involved in mass shootings and other criminal actsA 2014 report by the Chicago Police Department found that Glock pistols were the third most traced handgun, coming after those from Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger & Co. While it is possible to load .40 S&W into these magazines, the friction causes the larger rounds to lock up inside the magazine body and will induce malfunctions. The .357 SIG magazines differ from the .40 S&W counterpart, with the addition of an internal rib on each side of the magazine body including cutouts for the followe
-The location of the magazine release is good and I only have to modify my grip slightly to get my medium-sized hands into position to actuate it (as I do on every pistol made). The very slightly wider frame means that the takedown tabs are ever so slightly more recessed than on previous generation model+

-ALL PISTOLS
-In 1980, the Austrian Armed Forces announced that it would seek tenders for a new, modern duty pistol to replace their World War II–era Walther P38 handguns. In October 2025, Glock announced a major "right-sizing" initiative, ceasing production of over thirty variants to streamline manufacturing and introduce redesigned components to mitigate full-auto conversion. This led to lawsuits filed by the states of Minnesota and New Jersey in 2024, and legislation in glock 19 for sale California in 2025 (Assembly Bill 1127), aimed at forcing design changes to prevent such conversions. The widespread adoption of the design has made the Glock rise in popularity and a subject of gun control debates.
-First-generation models
-The striker firing mechanism has a spring-loaded firing pin that is cocked in two stages that the firing pin spring powers. This camming action terminates the barrel's movement while the slide continues back under recoil, extracting and ejecting the spent cartridge casing. A ramped lug extension at the base of the barrel then interacts with a glock 19 for sale tapered locking block integrated into the frame, forcing the barrel down and unlocking it from the slide. During the recoil stroke, the barrel moves rearward initially locked together with the slide about 3 mm (0.12 in) until the bullet leaves the barrel and chamber pressure drops to a safe level. Glock plans to replace the discontinued models in December with "V" designations after the model numbers, which will feature redesigned trigger bars and rear plates designed to prevent the use of full-auto switche

-The slide and barrel shelf have been resizedand the front portion of the polymer frame has been widened and internally enlarged, to accommodate the dual recoil spring assembly. Mechanically, fourth-generation Glock pistols are fitted with a dual recoil spring assembly to help reduce perceived recoil and increase service life expectancyThe basic grip size of the fourth-generation Glock pistols is slightly smaller compared to the previous design. Besides that, non-firing dummy pistols ("Pmodels) and non-firing dummy pistols with resetting triggers ("R" models) have a bright red frame, and Simunition-adapted practice pistols ("T" models) a bright blue frame for easy identification. The first-generation (Gen 1) Glock pistols are most notably recognized by their smoother "pebble finish" grip and finger groove-less frame+

+The dimension from the top of the slide to the bottom of the accessory rail is slightly greater on the Gen 5 than with the Gen 4The grip texture is identical to the Gen 4 and is serviceable, unless you have wet or bloody hands (thereforebe sure to stipple your Glock if it is a carry gun). Perhaps because of this change, the frame is very slightly wider and very slightly taller than that of the Gen 4. The Gen 5 Glock 19’s largely unadorned slide comes in black Melonite finish that is then treated with an nDLC coating. There are some who disagree and find the G19 or any Glock pistol to be just fine without this slight modification work. This anomaly went away after about 1000 rounds and never did impact the performance of the gun.
+Would a Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS be a good first gun option?
+The slide has the superior GLOCK hard-surface nDLC finish in non-reflective black. The slightly different frame dimension can present holster-compatibility issues is you have a mounted lightNotehoweverthat the slide-stop spring is no longer a leaf springbut rather a traditional compression spring (which is very hard to install once disassembled!). None of the previous-generation Glock OEM or aftermarket triggers will fit the Gen 5. This means that your gun will probably be too tall to fit into a hard (Kydex) holster with a light.
